Your inner child is activated whenever something in your adult life reminds you of difficulties in your childhood. When it is activated you usually feel unsafe, project your need for safety outside yourself and have trouble assessing the situation logically.
Through practicing to communicate with you inner child regularly you will strengthen your relationship with it and start to integrate and heal the wounds that it carries.
